Copper Repair Work
At some point, you will need a leak repaired or the replacement of a damaged section of pipe. Even with the recent introduction of new materials, copper pipe is still the material of choice in the plumbing industry and has been for over 70 years. Copper is an organic, environmentally friendly substance that will not deteriorate over time. It is resistant to corrosion and inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria, especially those found in stagnant water. Copper pipes are able to handle an extremely high concentration of pressure-per-square-inch of over 10 times the norm, yet is comparatively light making it less likely to sag even when spanning great distances. Currently, over 90 percent of existing homes contain copper plumbing and over 80 percent of new homes are built exclusively with copper plumbing. Copper is accepted by virtually all plumbing codes. Copper pipe or tubing is available in two types: flexible and rigid. Rigid tubing is usually installed in new homes while the flexible copper pipe is used for repair work since it can be run around obstacles without connections or cuts. Though many older homes were formerly plumbed with galvanized pipe, copper pipe can still be used when making repairs to the plumbing system.
